Laptop not booting up
When you turn on the power button on your laptop, but it doesn't seem to start up, respond, or show an image.
Try these troubleshooting steps:
1. Check the brightness or your monitor. It could be that the brightness is set too low to pitch black. Is anything showing up?
2. Remove any external media (besides a docking station) or USB devices plugged in. It should be noted that no external devices are allowed.
3. If the laptop is placed on a docking station, do not unplug the docking station (such as the HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G4) from the laptop. See if you can test the power of your laptop when it's linked to the docking station and when it's not linked to the station.
4. Look for any lights on the device. Are any of them blinking or lighting up? Is anything turning on? Do the lights turn on and then turn off?
5. Check the battery of your device. Is the laptop plugged in and charged?
6. Try to listen of any beeps one the device. If beeps are heard, then there is an issue with the hardware.
7. Perform a hard reset. Hold the power button down for 30 seconds then wait and attempt to power it on.
8. Make sure the cooling vents are clear and cleaned up. Your laptop may have some overheating issues, likely because of the surface it is placed on.
9. If none of the steps work and there is an issue with the hardware, contact IT support.
- List your username, name of your device, asset tag code, etc. if possible.
